Despite being an authentic Gujarati dish, Dhokla has a special place in everyone’s hearts around India. I mean, why not? This spongy and fluffy delight has a unique taste and flavor that has been loved for generations. The other day I was thinking about trying something special with Dhokla. That is when something struck my mind. Why not I try making Khaman Dhokla in a microwave? The idea of dhokla in a microwave recipe may sound crazy to many of you but in my case, it worked out well.

For me, Khaman Dhokla is the perfect dish for breakfast. Not only is it healthy and tasty, but it’s easy to make as the dish is steamed! Moreover, what I loved the most about Dhoklas is that there are multiple varieties to try out. So, you never get bored of experimenting with this soft and fluffy steamed snack. What’s better is that you can have it anytime when you are hungry. While there are innumerable recipes for Dhokla, my latest favorite is the one that I can make in the oven in an instant! Dhokla Recipe in Microwave
Now, here’s my version of Khaman Dhokla in a microwave oven. What I like the most about this dish is that I can reinforce its batter with tasty and delicious veggies like crushed green peas, grated carrots, fenugreek leaves, and more. When it comes to Indian food, I never stop experimenting! Once I got to know about the different types of Dhokla batters, there was no one to stop me from experimenting with the Dhokla recipe in a microwave.

Khaman Dhokla in Microwave
Ingredients
- 1 gram cup Bengal flour besan
- 1.5 tbsp semolina suji
- tsp ½citric acid/lemon juice
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp ginger and green chilli paste
- 1 tsp and ½fruit salt
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds rai
- 1/2 tsp sesame seeds til
- 1 tsp green chillies finely chopped
- pinch Aof asafoetida hing
- 1 tbsp coriander chopped
Instructions
- Take the gram flour, semolina, citric acid/lemon juice, ginger and green chilli paste, sugar, and salt in a deep bowl. Mix them with 3/4th cup of water. Do the same till no lumps remain in the said bowl.
- Add 1 tbsp and fruit salt to the mixture. Mix it gently once the bubbles start to form.
- Now, pour half of the batter into a greased microwave dish. Microwave the same for 2 minutes while keeping it high.
- Repeat the above step to get one more batch of Khaman Dhokla in a microwave. Keep them aside.
- Take a small microwave-safe bowl and heat oil in it.
- Add sesame seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, and chopped green chilies to the oil. Keep it on high flame for a minute.
- Pour this tempering in equal quantities over the Dhokla.
- Now, cut the Khaman Dhokla into pieces as per your choice. Garnish with coriander and serve them with the chutney of your choice.
