So, to start with, what is the FSSAI license?
FSSAI license or registration is very important for all the businesses that are related to food. It is a must to get the 14 digit number and one must also use it in their food product. The licenses are different depending on the operation scale that is supported by the business. The following are the categorization that must be followed and they are
- FSSAI Basic Registration – This registration is for small businesses that have an income of not more than twelve lakh rupees. The calculation is done on the yearly base.
- FSSAI State License – it is for the businesses that have an income of not more than twenty crore rupees and not less than twelve lakh rupees in a year.
- FSSAI Central License – This license is for businesses that have an income that is more than twenty crore rupees. It is also for those who are involved in some form of export or import.
Moving further, let’s get in detail regarding the FSSAI license process.
The FSSAI has come up with an online application that is known by FLRS – Food Licensing and Registration System. It presents many options for checking the license eligibility and then applies it online. Apart from this, it also sends the entrepreneurs a mechanized alert through email or SMS so that the license and the registration can be resumed on time.
To apply for the FLRS registration, one must follow the below steps.
- The first step is to go to http://foodlicensing.fssai.gov.in and look out for the eligibility criteria for state or central license or registration purposes.
- You will then have to complete the sign-up form for the standard selection and then your account will be activated.
- Your account can now be signed-in. Fill in the application form and make sure that all the required documents are properly filled in.
- Finally, submit the form and ensure to take a copy of your application form. You will then be given a reference number through which you can track the application status.
Once the application is received to the authorities, they will start with the examining process and the inspection will be carried out. If the examining inspectors are satisfied with the standard and the quality, she/he will then further expedite the report. You will then receive the license from the concerned authorities. The licensing process will take up to approximately 60 days.
There is also a fee charged by the FSSAI for the application process. They are
- Registration of FSSAI – Rs 100/ year
- FSSAI State License – it may range from Rs 2000 – Rs 5000/ year
- FSSAI Central License – Rs 7500/year

There are a few important documents that are required for the basic registration of the FSSAI license. They are
- Form B – it must be completed along with your signature.
- FBO Photo identity
- A possession premises proof must be submitted. For instance, the Rental Agreement
- Incorporation certificate, partnership deed, association articles, etc.
- Food product lists that will be managed with.
- The management plan for the food safety system.
The documents that would be needed for the State License are
- Form B – signed and completed.
- Processing unit plan that shows the operations and dimensions of the area allocations
- List of partners, directors, and proprietor address, photo ID, and contact details.
- List and name of the machinery and equipment that would be used.
- Manufactured food category list
- Authority letter
- Water report analysis
- Premise proof
- Certificate copy, license copy, and NOC.
