The other day, I was thinking about making something special for the weekend. The first thing that struck my mind was a dalia dosa. Yes, you heard that right! This dosa is made from none other than broken wheat popularly known as Dalia itself. The thing that I love the most is that it is full of fibers, and protein, and is a healthy option for health-conscious people. I mostly serve this dosa with my favorite chutney.
What is Dosa?
One of the most popular South Indian recipes is dosa. This amazing thin crepe is made of lentil batter and fermented rice. Do you think that dosas are made only of rice? It is only with the passage of time that people began using ingredients like black lentil or urad dal to give that extra taste or texture to the dosa.
You might be aware of Udupi restaurants. These eateries are the main reason why dosa has become so popular with time. The best part here is that now you can find several varieties of dosas. Be it plain, masala, or set dosa, they never stop making you drool! You can also try the Chocolate Sattu Bars and Instant Khaman Dhokla Recipe from the blog.
Why Daliya Dosa?
Well, all of us know about Rava dosa. Preparing it at home is so simple that I donβt even mind having it for breakfast daily. However, I always wanted to replace Rava with something healthier and tastier. That is when I came across the daliya dosa recipe. It tastes just like the traditional one and make them in less oil for healthier version.
How to make Daliya Dosa?
I mix broken wheat or daliya with mixed dals to make daliya dosa. In goes my favorite additions like chilies, ginger, curry leaves, pepper, and cumin. Thereafter, I just mix them and form a fine batter. Now, the important thing comes here. The batter consistency should be as smooth as buttermilk. So, what I do is that I cook the dosa on one side with half a spoon of oil, thatβs it! I always prefer to cook it at a low flame because that makes it crispier. Well, a healthy and crispy dosa is the perfect combo, isnβt it?
Why is daliya healthy?
Daliya or whole wheat is an integral part of the Indian kitchen. Whole wheat is ground coarsely to get what we call dalia. Some of us also call it couscous or cracked wheat. Now, you may be wondering about the dalia dosa calories, isnβt it? Donβt worry! 1 cup of daliya has fewer carbohydrates and calories than brown or white rice. Now thatβs something really interesting. I like it because of its rich fiber content. I also substitute dalia for rice at times. It is already recommended for diet substitution and for diabetic people.
